Harmonic Filter Panel in Saudi Arabia
Saudi Power Factor Company provides the harmonic filter panel in Saudi Arabia for plants where variable frequency drives, UPS systems and rectifiers push distortion beyond what the supply can tolerate. We supply passive tuned filters and active filters, chosen from measured data against IEEE 519 limits: active modules from 30 to 600 A, in parallel for larger loads.
What you receive: a written proposal with the filter type, rating, expected distortion after filtering, standard, lead time and price within one working day of receiving your single-line diagram and drive list. Request a quotation

Why are harmonic filters used?
Drives, UPS units, rectifiers and LED lighting draw current in pulses rather than a smooth sine wave. Those pulses distort the voltage on your busbar. The distortion overheats transformers and motors, trips sensitive breakers, disturbs PLCs and meters, and shortens the life of capacitors.
A filter takes the harmonic current out of the supply path. It protects equipment, lowers losses and helps you stay within the limits set by your utility, your client or your consultant. Many Saudi plants first notice harmonics through a failed capacitor bank or a drive that trips in the afternoon.

We build with ABB, Schneider Electric and Siemens components. Measurements are taken with Elcontrol Energy Net power quality analysers, from our Italian technology partner.
What is the difference between a capacitor bank and a harmonic filter?
A capacitor bank corrects power factor. A harmonic filter reduces distortion. They share parts, which is why the two are confused. A plain capacitor bank can make harmonics worse by resonating with the network. A detuned capacitor bank avoids that, and it blocks some harmonic current, but it is not designed to bring distortion down to a set limit.
If your goal is only a better power factor on a lightly distorted supply, a capacitor bank is enough. If your goal is a stated limit for voltage or current distortion, the answer is a filter.
How do I reduce harmonics in an electrical system?
Start with measurement, then choose the lowest-cost method that meets the limit.
- Detuned reactors protect capacitors where drives are a modest share of the load.
- Passive filters are tuned to the dominant harmonic, usually the 5th, and absorb it. They suit steady drive loads, but they are fixed and can overload if the load changes.
- Active filters read the distorted current and inject an opposing current across many harmonic orders. They follow the load, and they cost more per kVA.
- Combination solutions use an active filter for the spread of harmonics and a detuned bank for power factor.
IEEE 519 sets the distortion limits at the point where your plant connects to the grid. For systems at or below 1 kV the voltage THD limit is 8%, and current limits depend on the ratio of short-circuit current to load. Your client may specify tighter figures.
How do we select, build and commission a filter?
- Enquiry. You send the single-line diagram, transformer data and a list of drives and UPS units.
- Measurement. We log voltage, current and harmonic spectra during normal production, using a power quality survey.
- Selection. We compare passive, detuned and active options for your limit and budget.
- Design. You approve the single-line diagram, general arrangement and expected distortion figures.
- Build and test. The panel is assembled in Dammam and put through a factory test.
- Installation. We deliver, position and advise on cabling and CT placement.
- Verification. We measure again under production load and report the distortion achieved against the target.
- Support. Documents, spares and maintenance follow commissioning.
Where harmonic filtering is needed
Saudi Power Factor Company has operated in Saudi Arabia since 2010 and is approved by Saudi Aramco, SABIC and the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu. We have worked on projects for all three, and our quality, environmental and safety systems are certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
We have worked on projects for Saudi Aramco, SABIC and the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu, in all regions of Saudi Arabia. Tell us your plant type and city in the quotation form, and we describe the scope closest to your harmonic filter projects written as content: plant type, location, drive load, distortion before and after job.
Typical sites are water treatment and desalination pumping, plastics and packaging lines, steel rolling, data rooms and hospitals. In the Eastern Province that includes Dammam industrial areas, Jubail and Al Khobar. We deliver to every region of Saudi Arabia. Where the distortion is causing breaker trips, see the harmonics tripping and nuisance faults guide, and for the wider offer our power factor correction services.
Harmonic filtering questions
Who provides a harmonic filter panel in Saudi Arabia?
Saudi Power Factor Company provides harmonic filter panels in Saudi Arabia, designed from site measurements and built in Dammam with ABB, Schneider Electric and Siemens components. We are approved by Saudi Aramco, SABIC and the Royal Commission.
What affects the cost of harmonic filtering?
Cost depends on filter type, since active filters cost more than passive ones, the harmonic current to be removed, the voltage level, enclosure and cooling, and the monitoring you want. Measured data narrows the rating, which prevents paying for more filter than the plant needs.
How long does harmonic filter delivery take?
Time depends on filter type, rating and whether site measurements are already available. Our typical lead time is 4–6 weeks for active filters and 3–4 weeks for passive and detuned panels. Starting the harmonic survey early removes the largest delay, because the filter cannot be sized without it.
How much does an active harmonic filter cost compared with a passive one?
An active filter usually costs more per kVA than a passive filter, but it handles many harmonic orders and adapts to changing load. A passive filter costs less and suits steady drive loads. The proposal compares both options for your measured spectrum.
Can a passive filter also correct power factor?
Yes. A passive tuned filter supplies reactive power at the fundamental frequency, so it corrects power factor while absorbing the target harmonic. Some active filters also supply reactive current. We confirm the combined result in the design stage.
