Allen-Bradley PowerMonitor Energy Monitoring in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Power Factor Company provides Allen-Bradley PowerMonitor energy monitoring in Saudi Arabia as part of its APFC and harmonic filter panels, together with capacitor-duty contactors from the same maker. We are an authorised partner of Rockwell Automation for Allen-Bradley products. The monitor shows what the controller cannot: kW, kVAr, power factor and distortion over time.

What you receive: a written proposal naming the monitor and contactor models, the panel scope, the lead time and the price within one working day of your load list or specification. Request a quotation

Why add Allen-Bradley PowerMonitor energy monitoring to a PFC panel?

A power factor controller reacts to the present reading and shows little history. A PowerMonitor logs demand, power factor, harmonics and events, so your maintenance team can see whether the bank is holding the target during every shift. It is also useful when drives sit on the same incomer, because drives change the harmonic picture and the measured power factor. The monitor can share data with a PLC or SCADA system if your plant already runs Rockwell controls.

Which Allen-Bradley items do we use?

Item Range / specification Standard Typical lead time
PowerMonitor 5000 Incomer metering with power quality functions IEC 61557-12 Agreed in the quotation
Capacitor-duty contactors Per step rating, with inrush limiting where needed IEC 60947-4-1 Included in build time
APFC panel carrying the above 25–1,200 kVAr per panel, 380–415 V, 60 Hz IEC 61439-1/-2 2–3 weeks
Harmonic filter panel with monitoring Active filter modules 30–600 A Manufacturer type-tested 4–6 weeks

What is a capacitor contactor?

A capacitor contactor is a contactor made to close onto a discharged capacitor, where the first instant of current can reach many times the rated value. It has early-make auxiliary contacts and damping resistors that limit this inrush, which protects the capacitor, the fuses and the contacts. A standard motor contactor can weld its contacts in this duty. Our capacitor-duty contactors page lists what we stock.

What is the power factor of a VFD?

A drive with a diode front end draws current close to the voltage waveform at the displacement level, so the displacement power factor looks high, often above 0.95. The true power factor is lower because the input current carries harmonics. Adding plain capacitors beside a drive can cause resonance, so the answer is usually a detuned bank or a harmonic filter panel chosen after measurement.

How does a monitoring project run?

  1. Enquiry. You send the bill, load list or panel drawings.
  2. Measurement plan. We decide which incomers and feeders need metering.
  3. Selection. We choose the monitor and the contactor ratings.
  4. Build or retrofit. The monitor is fitted and wired in the panel.
  5. Test. We check readings against a reference instrument.
  6. Handover. You receive settings, communication details and test records.
  7. Support. We help read the logs after the first month of operation.

Allen-Bradley partner questions

Who provides Allen-Bradley PowerMonitor energy monitoring in Saudi Arabia?

Saudi Power Factor Company provides Allen-Bradley PowerMonitor energy monitoring inside its PFC panels and as a retrofit to existing banks. We are an authorised Rockwell Automation partner. The proposal names the model and the measurement points.

What affects the cost of a power monitor?

Cost depends on the model, the number of voltage and current inputs, the communication option, the panel cut-out work and the commissioning time. Send the single-line diagram, and the proposal lists the monitor as a separate line.

How long does fitting a monitor take?

Fitting is quick when it ships with a new panel, as it follows the build schedule of 2–3 weeks for an APFC panel. A retrofit to an existing panel depends on the shutdown window, and the quotation sets a date once we have seen the panel.

How does a capacitor duty contactor work?

It closes in two stages. Early-make contacts pass the inrush through damping resistors, then the main contacts take over the steady current. This limits the peak current when a discharged capacitor is connected.

What does a 0.95 power factor mean?

It means the real power is 95 percent of the apparent power, so the reactive share is small. We design our panels to 0.95 because the Saudi Electricity Company tariff sets a 0.90 limit above 1 MVA contract load.

Can the monitor feed our PLC or SCADA system?

Yes, where the model has the communication port you need. We list the protocol in the proposal, wire the connection to the terminal point you specify, and test the data link before handover.
