Capacitor Bank Maintenance Contracts in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Power Factor Company provides capacitor bank maintenance in Saudi Arabia under annual and six-monthly contracts for industrial plants, hospitals and commercial buildings. Each visit includes infrared thermography under load, a capacitance test on every step, contactor and fuse checks, and a written report that ranks what to repair first.

What you receive: a written maintenance proposal with the visit schedule, scope, report format and price within one working day of receiving your panel nameplate details or your last service record. Request a quotation

What does capacitor bank maintenance include?

A capacitor bank loses capacity quietly. Capacitors age, contactor tips wear, fans clog with dust and the controller drifts, yet the panel keeps running while the power factor slips and the reactive-power charge returns to your bill. Maintenance finds these faults before a step fails or a capacitor ruptures. Each visit covers four groups of work:

  • Condition checks. We inspect the enclosure, busbars, cable terminations, fans, filters and door seals, and re-torque power connections.
  • Thermal survey. We scan contactors, fuses, reactors, capacitors and terminations with a thermal camera while the panel carries load, because a hot joint shows up only under current.
  • Electrical tests. We measure the capacitance of each step against its nameplate value and the previous reading, and we check discharge resistors and insulation.
  • Control and settings. We verify the controller target, CT ratio, step sequence and alarm settings, then log power factor and harmonic distortion for several cycles of load.

We build with ABB, Schneider Electric and Siemens components, so we hold the knowledge to match replacement contactors, fuses and capacitors to the original rating. Where a survey calls for a power quality analyser, we use equipment from our Italian technology partner, Elcontrol Energy Net. We also maintain panels built by other manufacturers.

How often should a capacitor bank be tested?

Test every bank at least once a year. Plants with high ambient temperature, dust, frequent step switching or heavy drive loads should move to six-monthly visits, because those conditions shorten capacitor and contactor life. Add a visit after any fault, after a transformer or load change, and when your electricity bill shows a reactive-power charge again. Your electricity bill is a free condition monitor: a power factor that was steady at 0.95 and now drifts lower points to lost steps.

How do you know a capacitor is bad?

Look for these signs, then confirm them with a capacitance test:

  • the case is bulged, leaking or discoloured;
  • the measured capacitance has fallen more than a few per cent below nameplate;
  • a step draws less current than its rating when switched in;
  • the fuse for a step has blown more than once; or
  • the capacitor case is hotter than its neighbours in the thermal image.

A failed or weak step is replaced by a matched unit. For several failed steps or an old panel, our capacitor replacement and retrofit service is usually cheaper than visit after visit. If failures repeat, the cause is often heat or harmonics, which our guide to capacitor bank overheating and failure explains.

How does a maintenance visit run?

  1. Enquiry. You send panel nameplate data, the single-line diagram if you have it, and any earlier service report.
  2. Scope and schedule. We agree the visit frequency, outage windows and permit requirements for your site.
  3. Safe isolation. We isolate the panel, wait for the capacitors to discharge, and prove the circuits dead with a meter before any hands-on test.
  4. Inspection and tests. We complete the thermal scan under load first, then the isolated checks, capacitance tests and torque work.
  5. Re-energise and verify. We restore the panel, confirm each step switches, and log power factor under load.
  6. Report. You receive photographs, thermal images, test values and a ranked repair list within an agreed time.
  7. Repair and spares. We quote any repair, and we can fit parts from our spare parts supply.
  8. Follow-up. The next visit compares readings with this one, so slow deterioration becomes visible.

Who we maintain capacitor banks for

Saudi Power Factor Company has worked in Saudi Arabia since 2010 and is approved by Saudi Aramco, SABIC and the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu. Projects for all three are behind us, and our management systems are certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001. Maintenance contracts suit plants that cannot afford a surprise outage or a penalty on the bill: cement and steel works, petrochemical and plastics factories, pumping stations, hospitals, malls and cold stores.

We have worked on projects for Saudi Aramco, SABIC and the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu, in all regions of Saudi Arabia. Tell us your plant type and city in the quotation form, and we describe the scope closest to your PFC maintenance job.

We serve every region of Saudi Arabia from our Dammam base. Jubail is about 1 hour from Dammam and Riyadh about 4 hours by road; Jeddah and Yanbu are reached by air or road. Eastern Province call-outs are answered within one working day. For a new or replacement panel, see our APFC panel range, and for harmonic readings beyond the visit log, ask about a power quality survey.

Maintenance contract questions

Who provides capacitor bank maintenance in Saudi Arabia?

Saudi Power Factor Company provides the servicing of capacitor banks and APFC panels across Saudi Arabia from its Dammam base. We have been active since 2010 and are approved by Saudi Aramco, SABIC and the Royal Commission. Your proposal names the engineer and the visit dates.

What affects the cost of a maintenance contract?

The cost depends on the number of panels and steps, the panel voltage and kVAr, how many visits a year you want, travel distance, access and permit requirements, and whether spares and repairs are included. Send the panel list and the proposal prices each visit separately.

How long does a maintenance visit take?

A single panel usually takes a few hours, including the thermal scan, isolated tests and the report notes. Large installations with many banks take longer, and we plan outage windows with your team. The duration also depends on how much dust and corrosion we find.

Does the plant have to shut down?

The thermal survey and logging are done with the panel on load. The capacitance and torque checks need the panel isolated, so we agree a short outage window with you. Where several banks share a site, we service them in turn so power factor correction is never lost everywhere at once.

What does the report contain?

The report holds photographs, thermal images with temperatures, capacitance values for every step against nameplate, the controller settings found and left, and a repair list ranked by urgency. Each item states whether it needs action now or at the next visit.

Can you maintain a panel you did not build?

Yes. Send the nameplate, the single-line diagram if you have it, and photographs of the open panel. We confirm the scope in the proposal, and we match replacement parts to the original ratings. We service panels of other makes.
